Ecological Section Mclemore, Caren [1], O'Kennon, Robert [2]. Dalea reverchonii (Fabaceae): relocating a rare Texas endemic. Dalea reverchonii (Fabaceae) is a rare Texas endemic in danger of major population reductions due to continued urbanization in its highly restricted range. Roads, buildings, and other infrastructure isolate populations and most occurrences of this species comprise fewer than thirty plants. We will begin the relocation project in the Lyndon B. Johnson National Grasslands in Decatur, Texas (Wise County) in April 2005. Two appropriate sites for relocation have been selected. Two methods will be investigated to determine the best approach for re-establishment of the plants; transplanting young plants and sowing seed. Half of each treatment (young plants or seed) will be watered once per week in addition to receiving water via rainfall. The other half of each treatment will receive only water via rainfall. Results of each treatment and each watering program will be tested for statistical differences. These results will be evaluated by mid-summer 2005 and will help the state decide the best method for continuing the conservation program. Dalea reverchonii's status as a rare endemic in an increasingly fragmented habitat necessitates the identification of a feasible method of preserving and protecting this species.
