Genetics Section Schlarbaum, Scott E. [1]. Cytogenetic Systems, Systematics, and Evolutionary Potential in Conifers. Ascending and descending dysploidy has been a common interpretation of differences in basic chromosome numbers of extant coniferous families. In reality, there are differences among families for the capacity of cytogenetic evolution that was apparently reached long ago. Some families have been intolerant to numeric change, while other families tolerated aneuploid and polyploid changes.
